Dr. C. Douglas Lees
Dr. C. Douglas Lees was born in Hamilton, Scotland. After graduating from Glasgow University, Scotland, United Kingdom, he continued his medical education at the same institution. He completed his residency training in general surgery at Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Robert E. Hermann in 1982 and then his training in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Cleveland Clinic under Dr Floyd D. Loop and Dr. Delos M. Cosgrove III. He was the recipient of the George and Grace Crile Traveling Fellowship, spending time in Houston, Texas with Dr. Denton Cooley. Dr. Lees is board certified and re-certified with the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and American College of Chest Surgeons. Dr Lees is also a member of several professional societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Alumni Association, European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the Oakland County Thoracic Society. He has been the author of sixteen peer reviewed publications. Dr. Lees has spoken on many aspects of cardiovascular surgery and other complex issues, including surgery of the aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonic valves. Dr. Lees was one of the pioneering surgeons in using radial arteries for coronary bypass surgery and among the first to use transmyocardial revascularization (TMR) to improve patients' surgical outcomes. Dr. Lees continues to be a pioneer in advanced surgical treatments. This is evident by his involvement with radio frequency (RF) to treat patients suffering from atrial fibrillation. |
